Crystal Small is a first generation Caribbean American, born and raised in Maryland to the beat of Trinidadian Soca and the smell of Guyanese curry and roti. As a middle child she understands that home is where the heart is…and can also be the place where we need the most healing.
In 2012, Crystal received her Bachelor’s degree in Family Science from the University of Maryland (Go Terps!) where she began her journey working with families, their health, and the problems they face in contemporary society. Since completing her Masters of Education in Counseling from Bowie State University in 2017, she has spent the last 4 years serving families and adolescents as a high school counselor. Working within the school system, she gained a deeper understanding of the impact of family systems and how they influence individual behaviors. She also got an up close look at the systemic challenges facing BIPOC individuals and their families and the need for accessible mental health resources based on diversity, equity and inclusion.
Throughout her life and work, Crystal has found that people would come to her with the most vulnerable parts of their identities; especially their sexuality. This has prompted her to pursue more knowledge and experience with the mental and sexual health of individuals of all expressions of human sexuality.
