Whether working with individuals, couples or families, I offer a safe space where we can release your pain, stress and concerns while also making space for you to connect with your best self. In our work together, I will serve as an attuned, responsive and engaged guide who will help you work towards the changes and healing that you desire in your life. Together, we will work to better understand and adapt the maps and models for how you have learned to connect and do relationships. In addition to this offering, I specialize in and am deeply committed to empowering and supporting women and their families during pregnancy and the first year beyond.
As a therapist of color, I take great care to cultivate a space that honors inclusivity and diversity while also helping to reduce the stigmatization of therapy. My approach as a therapist is guided by the belief that we have the power and the right to be free, live whole-heartedly and to walk in wellness. Clients experience me as warm, grounded, attuned and empathetic as we work towards change.
In my work with mothers in the perinatal period, I work to cultivate a safe haven where we can explore your concerns, prioritize your mental health and prepare for the major transition that a new addition to your family brings. Though pregnancy can be exciting, the dynamic nature of pregnancy and the preparations for the birth of a child often can overshadow a mother’s mental health. Together we will prioritize your mental health and make space for your present experiences and needs without judgment. As I work relationally, we will make space to invite your partner to session if we identify that may be most helpful and productive for you.
When working with couples and families, your relationship will become my client and we will explore the dynamics that take place between each partner or family member as well as the dynamics that take place within. Together we will identify unhelpful patterns or stuck places and develop a new way of connecting.
I often work with couples or families on rebuilding trust, increasing emotional intimacy, preparing for marriage, adapting to loss, adapting to major life transitions, setting emotional boundaries or supporting loved ones struggling with mental health.
When working with individuals, I focus on identifying your core values and living in alignment with them, resolving your internal conflicts, cultivating self-compassion, identifying and releasing unhelpful negative thoughts and or narratives that you may have carried about yourself for far too long.
My work with you will be informed by evidenced-based models such as Emotionally Focused Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, the Gottman Method or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I identify as a strengths-based clinician who seeks to capitalize on your internal resources and strengths, even if your strengths may not be readily apparent to you at the start of our work.
I received my M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech and also hold a M.S. degree in Educational Psychology from George Mason University. In the past six years, I have provided individual, couples and family therapy in a variety of clinical settings to include partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, home-based and outpatient settings.
